Export sizes from 1K to 8K

Each preset comes in 1K, 2K, 4K and 8K, where the number refers to the long side. A 2K widescreen image is 2048 by 1152 pixels, and an 8K square image is 8192 pixels on each side.

Every export is taken from the live viewport and resized to the size you pick, so the file matches what you see on screen, cropped to the aspect ratio you choose. Leave a little room around the piece, because a tall story frame trims the sides of a wide viewport. A bigger size gives a file with more pixels for layouts that ask for them, but it does not add detail beyond what the viewport shows. As a rule of thumb, 2K covers most web and marketplace uses, and 4K or 8K is there for designers, printers and platforms that ask for a larger pixel size.

PNG or JPEG

  • PNG is lossless. Use it for master files, for anything that will be edited further and before you cut the piece out with a background remover.
  • JPEG files are much smaller and load faster. Use them for web pages and marketplace listings, where light files keep pages quick.

What about DPI?

Print designers often ask for 300 DPI files. DPI is only a label that tells layout software how large to place an image, and the pixel size is what really counts. The DPI choice in the export panel is a label only and is not written into the file, so set the DPI in your layout or print software when you place the image. As a guide, an image placed at 300 DPI prints about 8.5 centimetres wide for every 1000 pixels. Ask your printer for a proof before a large run.

Every saved angle in one ZIP

Switch the image panel to Multiple mode, tick the saved poses you want and download one image per pose in a single ZIP file. Combined with one-click poses, that turns a full set of product angles into a few clicks.

Channel cheat sheet

  • Shopify product images look sharp at 2048 by 2048 pixels, so export Square at 2K.
  • Amazon enables zoom from 1000 pixels on the longest side. Square at 2K with Pure White is a safe choice for the main image.
  • Etsy recommends at least 2000 pixels on the shortest side, so use 2K or more.
  • Instagram feed posts work well at Insta Post 4:5 in 2K, which you can resize to 1080 by 1350 pixels.

Requirements change from time to time, so check each marketplace before a big upload. Our product image requirements guide keeps a current summary.

Detail and file size

Fine detail comes from the viewport, not from the export size. Before you export a pavé band, a milgrain edge or an engraved shank, raise the renderer quality to High or Ultra, let the piece fill most of the frame and check the detail on screen, because buyers zoom in to judge the craftsmanship. Large files also slow down product pages, so match the export size to what each channel asks for rather than exporting everything at 8K.

For the web, a JPEG at 2K usually lands at a few hundred kilobytes, while a PNG of the same image can be several megabytes. Use PNG while you are still editing, then save the final web version as JPEG or let your shop platform compress it.

Organise exports for your catalogue

A little discipline at export time saves hours later.

  • Put the SKU at the start of every file name, followed by the metal and the angle, for example RG-1042-yellow-front.
  • Keep one folder per collection with the same set of angles for every product.
  • Export the same aspect ratio for every main image, so your shop grid lines up.
  • Keep the PNG master files. You can always make smaller copies, but you cannot add detail back to a small JPEG.

Tips for sharp, consistent stills

  1. Raise the renderer quality to High or Ultra before exporting.
  2. Use the same aspect ratio, background and camera distance for every product in a collection.
  3. Export at the size each channel asks for, so files stay light and pages load fast.
  4. Name your files with the SKU so they match your product data.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Pick the aspect ratio

Choose the preset named for where the image will be used, or type a custom size.

    Choose the size

2K for most web uses, or 4K and 8K when a designer, printer or platform asks for more pixels.

  3. 3

    Choose the format

PNG for master files and editing, JPEG for fast web pages.

  4. 4

    Export

Download a single image, or switch to Multiple mode for every saved pose.

Frequently asked questions

Do I really need 8K?
Rarely. 2K is plenty for listings and social posts. The export is resized from the live viewport, so a larger file does not add detail the viewport does not show. Choose 4K or 8K when a printer, designer or platform asks for that pixel size.
Which size is best for Shopify?
Square at 2K gives 2048 by 2048 pixels, which looks sharp and keeps the product grid even.
Can I export with a transparent background?
Not at the moment. Every export has a solid backdrop. For a cut-out, export a PNG on Pure White with no ground and remove the background with any free background remover.
Does the DPI setting change my file?
No. The DPI choice is a label only and is not written into the file. The pixel size is what counts, so set the DPI in your layout or print software when you place the image.
