Render 3Design jewelry models online
3Design is a parametric jewelry CAD tool used by designers and manufacturers worldwide. Export your design in a common mesh format and RenderMyJewels turns it into product images and videos in minutes.
Common exports
Upload STL or OBJ exports, or 3DM if your version offers it.
Separate stones
Formats with separate objects let stones sparkle as gems.
Parametric families
Upload every version as a folder and render them consistently.
Browser based
Marketing images without a CAD seat.
Choose the right export
RenderMyJewels reads GLB, glTF, STL, OBJ, Rhino 3DM and FBX files. From 3Design, the common choices are STL and OBJ, and your version may offer more. Check the export menu and pick the best option available.
| Export | Result in the studio |
|---|---|
| OBJ with separate objects | Stones and metal arrive as separate parts, so stones can get gem materials |
| STL | One part, ideal for metal-only pieces |
| 3DM, if available | Separate parts with layer names, if your version can export it |
For designs with diamonds or coloured stones, a format that keeps separate objects gives the best render. Name stone objects with words such as Diamond, Gem or Stone so they start as stones automatically.
Exporting a clean model
- Finish the design and hide or remove construction elements you do not want in the render.
- Keep stones as separate objects rather than merging everything into one body.
- Export at a resolution that keeps curves smooth without creating a very heavy file.
- Name the file with the SKU first, for example PD-3310_Leaf Pendant.obj.
Files can be up to 100 MB, or 200 MB for 3DM.
From 3Design to finished images
- Upload the exported file to your library. A preview is created automatically.
- Open it in the studio and check which parts became stones.
- Select any stones that started as metal and apply a gem material.
- Choose the alloy, lighting for metal and stones, a background and a ground.
- Pick a pose and export stills up to 8K or a 360° video.
Parametric families and colourways
3Design is often used to build families of designs that differ in size, stone or detail. Export each version as its own file and upload them together as a folder, with the jewelry type and a collection set for the whole batch. In the studio, create variants for metal and stone options, so every version of a design can be shown in every colourway with identical lighting.
Rendering inside 3Design compared with RenderMyJewels
3Design includes its own rendering, which is handy while designing. RenderMyJewels focuses on the sales side: a library of jewelry materials and lighting, backgrounds and grounds for every channel, one-click poses, still export sizes up to 8K, 360° and multi-angle video, AI photoshoots and share links. It runs in a browser, so the people who produce marketing images do not need a CAD seat.
Tips for 3Design users
- Export stones as separate objects whenever the design has stones.
- Keep a lighter render export alongside your production files.
- Use collections for seasons and customers, and tags for styles such as floral or geometric.
- Check two-tone designs in the studio and apply a different alloy to each metal part.
Getting approvals faster
Send a client a set of renders or a share link to the 3D model before production. A realistic image answers most questions about proportion and stone size, and changes are made in 3Design before any metal is used. Our guide on selling jewelry before casting covers the full approval workflow.
Which format if you have a choice
If your export options include a format that keeps separate named objects, prefer it over STL. Separate parts are what allow realistic stones, two-tone metals and quick colourways in the studio.
