Render MatrixGold designs online

MatrixGold runs on Rhino and saves its designs as 3DM files, so they open directly in RenderMyJewels. Upload the file, check the stones and export product images and videos in minutes.

MatrixGold files are 3DM files

Because MatrixGold is built on top of Rhino, every MatrixGold design is saved in Rhino's 3DM format. You do not need to export anything. Upload the saved file and the studio reads its geometry and layer names. Files can be up to 200 MB. See the 3DM format page for details on how 3DM files are handled.

Make sure the gems are recognised

MatrixGold builders create stones and settings for you, and they place them on layers. The studio decides what is a stone by reading layer names. Layers whose names contain Gem, Diamond, Stone or a gem name such as Ruby or Sapphire start as stones, and everything else starts as metal.

Before saving, open the layer panel and check the layers that hold your stones. If they have generic names, rename them, for example Center Stone, Side Stones or Pave. If you forget, nothing is lost. In the studio, select the stones and apply a gem material by hand.

Save with render meshes

The studio displays the render meshes stored in the file. Shade a viewport before saving so every object has a mesh, use the Smooth and slower mesh setting for round shapes, and avoid Save Small. If a surface appears missing in the studio, shade and save the file again in MatrixGold and re-upload it.

From MatrixGold to a product listing

  1. Finish the design with the builders as usual.
  2. Check stone layer names and shade a viewport.
  3. Save and upload the 3DM file. A preview is created automatically.
  4. Open it in the studio and confirm the stones have gem materials.
  5. Choose the alloy, for example polished white gold, and the stone, for example an H near colourless diamond.
  6. Pick lighting, background, ground and pose, then export stills or a 360° video.

Rendering inside MatrixGold compared with RenderMyJewels

MatrixGold includes its own rendering tools, which are convenient for quick previews while designing. RenderMyJewels is built for the step after design: producing consistent sales images across a whole catalogue, in many aspect ratios, with videos, colourways and AI lifestyle shots, by anyone on the team. The file stays the same, so there is no extra work to use both.

Colourways for MatrixGold designs

Retail customers often ask for the same design in several metals or with a different stone. In the studio, create a variant for each option. Each new variant copies the current setup, so lighting and pose stay identical and only the material changes. See variants and colourways.

Bridal and custom orders

Many MatrixGold users design engagement rings and custom pieces. Rendering lets you send a client a realistic image or a 360° video before casting, and a share link lets them turn the design on their own phone. Approvals come faster, and changes happen in CAD, where they are cheap, rather than after casting. Read how to sell jewelry before casting.

Tips for MatrixGold users

  • Save one design per file, named with the SKU first, so uploads are organised automatically.
  • Keep stones in separate layers by type, so you can change the centre stone without touching the accents.
  • Use a smooth mesh setting before saving designs with large polished surfaces.
  • Upload a whole folder of finished designs at once and set the jewelry type for the batch.

Exporting other formats

When a manufacturer or printer needs a different file, MatrixGold can export STL for printing and casting and OBJ for other software. For rendering here, the original 3DM file is the best choice because it keeps layer names.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Check stone layers

Rename generic stone layers to Center Stone, Side Stones or Pave.

  2. 2

    Shade and save

Shade a viewport and save normally, not with Save Small.

  3. 3

    Upload

Drop the 3DM file or a folder of designs into your library.

  4. 4

    Render

Choose alloy, stone, lighting and pose, then export.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to export MatrixGold files?
No. MatrixGold saves Rhino 3DM files, which upload directly.
Why do my stones look like metal?
Their layer names did not include a stone word. Rename the layers before saving, or select the stones in the studio and apply a gem material.
How large can a MatrixGold file be?
Up to 200 MB. Purging unused layers and objects keeps most files well under that.
Can I show the same ring in different metals?
Yes. Create a variant for each metal in the studio and export the same angles for each.
